The spring must overcome friction forces and transfer hydraulic oil back to the tank. In models without spring return, the piston is retracted by an external force after pressure relief. Such cylinders have the same stroke length as double-acting cylinders of the same length.
If there is a risk of cutting lubricants and coolants entering the cylinder, a breather hose should be connected to the central metal air filter and placed in a safe location.
